Ryan told me to pack up early on Wednesday the 3rd from work and to take Thursday and Friday off. That's it. That's all I knew. He came to get me on Wednesday right at 12 and we were on our way. We drove toward Arizona so I thought we were going to Phoenix to see family for my birthday... but we did NOT take the turnoff for Phoenix, we kept driving. Then I thought, we must be going to Flagstaff because that's the next logical place and we both love it there. When we got close to Flagstaff, Cooper was getting a little antsy so I was messing around with him in the back seat. By the time I looked up, I saw we were headed south... away from Flagstaff! 'What?!?!?' I thought... where are we going? Then I realized... he was taking me to Sedona! We had to go the long way because the weather had shut down the pretty route to the city. We were late for dinner he said, but wanted to check in at the hotel first. We drove into a tiny little parking lot and he got out. When he came back, he had a letter addressed to both of us, wishing me a happy birthday and telling us to enjoy our stay at their... bed and breakfast! Ryan and I have never been to a bed and breakfast, what a romantic! Then we hurried back down to the town to dinner. When we walked in, the place was packed with people and he grabbed Cooper and walked to the hostess desk. Within minutes, she was waving us back and I turned a corner to see a table all decorated for my 30th birthday with the smiling faces of my parents and Auntie and Uncs waiting for us!
They had driven up from Phoenix for the night to go to dinner and then they were taking Cooper back with them for the weekend! What a cool thing! We had a great dinner and dessert and then promptly fell asleep in one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in! We spent the whole weekend hiking all over the city! There were so many hikes I didn't know about! On Saturday, we headed to an early St. Patty's Day parade and then a small hike, followed by Alice in Wonderland. We just loved being able to spend all that time together, just the two of us. We took tons of pictures. We will definitely be taking that trip again!
